Close the tailgate manually. Cycle the car to key on engine off, wait about 30 seconds then key off.Both times all I had to do was disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about 30 seconds.. then reconnect, and that’s it, the rear gate will auto-reset. Not sure why you’re finding that you shouldn’t manually open it, but FYI, you can manually set the level you want the liftgate to open up to, so I can’t imagine opening it ....
